Covid-19 Relief and Healthcare

We stand for a healthy Texas.

Texas has one of the highest uninsured rates in the entire nation, and many Texans who are insured are underinsured. COVID-19 has shown us once again what we have known for some time, that Healthcare is a human right, and as such, should be affordable and accessible.

MALC’s priorities on COVID-19 center on equitable testing and vaccination. Black and Brown Texans are disproportionately hospitalized from COVID-19, but are also disproportionately unvaccinated. We need targeted help to Black and Brown communities and we need it today.

MALC’s larger healthcare goals center on lowering the Uninsured rate and reducing healthcare inequities in the State, including the expansion of Medicaid.

Healthcare Legislative Priorities:

  • Provide COVID-19 Relief
  • Expand Medicaid
  • Build and expand healthcare infrastructure in minority and rural communities

Freedom to Vote Fund

On July 12th, a group of Texas Legislators including MALC Members made the historic decision to leave the state to deny Governor Greg Abbott the quorum he needed to pass a dangerous, anti-voter bill.
